Woman dies in crash on Cross County in Yonkers
YONKERS — A Mount Vernon man will likely face a drunk-driving charge after a fatal crash on the Cross County Parkway early Monday, police said.
A 44-year-old woman from the Bronx died in the crash, which occurred around 1:15 a.m., Westchester County Police spokesman Kieran O’Leary said. The woman was a passenger in a car driven by a 38-year-old Mount Vernon man who is in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Westchester Medical Center, he said. Police have not released the name of either person.
The car was traveling eastbound when it hit a bridge abutment by the Seminary Avenue overpass, O’Leary said. The woman had to be extricated from the car, which spun out and ended up facing the wrong direction, he said.
The man is expected to be charged with driving while intoxicated, possibly as soon as Tuesday, O’Leary said.
Police had blocked off eastbound Exit 4S for the southbound state Thruway on Monday morning. The Westchester County Medical Examiner was on the scene around 8:30 a.m.
