Celebrities Pay Tribute to Craig Sager, Longtime NBA Broadcaster, dies at 65 with Cancer

Longtime NBA sideline reporter Craig Sager has died at the age of 65 after a battle with cancer.

Turner President David Levy says in a statement Thursday that Sager had died, without saying when or where.

Famous for his flashy suits and probing questions, Sager worked basketball games for TNT for nearly a quarter-century.

Sager first announced in April 2014 that he had been diagnosed with leukemia, and he missed the playoffs and much of the following season as he underwent two bone marrow transplants.

Sager revealed in March that his leukemia was no longer in remission. He said doctors told him the typical prognosis was three to six months to live, but “I am receiving the best treatment in the world and I remain

He came from Batavia and won the loyalty of sports fans all over the nation. Tonight basketball royalty is lining up sing his praises. Dwyane Wade on instagram- “He was someone that we all wanted to be around, someone when the game was over, we couldn’t wait to get to the interview, whether we was gonna talk about his suit, we were gonna be interviewed by one of the greatest.”

He went to Northwestern, played football and basketball and for three seasons, Craig Sager was Willie the Wildcat.

Brian James, Assistant Basketball Coach, Northwestern said “He was the first person that I remember from working in the NBA who was unafraid to ask any question, a pointed question; everybody tries to copy that now.”

“It’s how he fought—it is the thing that I’ll always remember, a fighter with a smile on his face.”
