Steve Francis Arrested on Burglary Charge in Flordia
Former NBA star Steve Francis was booked into a Florida jail on a burglary charge after allegedly breaking into a woman’s car in June and stealing over $7,000 in goods.
Francis was arrested for DWI in Houston a few weeks ago and when Florida police became aware of that, they issued a warrant for his arrest for the burglary incident.
According to the police report, a woman at a restaurant left her door unlocked and while she was inside, Francis asked a bartender for help finding his keys. “The bartender went and got a flashlight and went outside and held the flashlight while Steve Francis moved my seats back and forth, stripped the inside of my car of everything, and broke into my lock box,” the victim said when speaking to Eyewitness News.
Francis allegedly stole a diamond ring, her father’s wedding band, her wallet, cash, and makeup bag. He walked into a police department two days later, carrying a plastic bag with several of the woman’s belongings. He told police, “I just robbed somebody, take me to jail. I’m turning myself in,” but they had nothing in the system to hold him, so they let him go.
According to jail records, Francis turned himself in early Monday on a burglary of an unoccupied conveyance charge, a 3rd-degree felony that carries up to five years in prison. His bond was set at $1,500.
